Passacaglia and Gigue (2000/2007)
Scored for two violins, two violas, and two ‘cellos. Advanced; about 11 minutes for both movements. A neoclassical work. The passacaglia is based upon the simple, common 8-7-6-5 minor mode Baroque passacaglia bass ostinato. Mostly polyphonic, with a few coloristic passages; moderate tempo, parts very independent. The gigue is in imitative polyphony and in the typical rounded binary form. Both sections employ very contemporary harmony. Each section can be performed independently if desired. $20, including score, parts, and demo disk; order here. Link to an excellent video here.
